torchy no-mates

can't remember if I've mentioned before that I don't sit with my project team at work - I sit with a different team and end up not talking to many ppl. most days only a hello to the receptionist and the Starbucks coffee lady in fact - torchy no-mates lol. the guy who sat opposite me left about a week before Christmas. I said my first words to him the day he left!

I've been thinking a bit about this job and my last job. you may recall that I pretty much hated my last job - boring as fuck, horrible boss, blah blah, altho on the up side they were pretty relaxed about times and I never used to do enough hours. probably why my contract got terminated early! hah!

my current job also turns out to be boring as fuck, *and* tight on hours, and using really outdated technology, *but* the boss is nice and reasonably pleasant.

I'm NOT moaning tho, honest - I've buttered my bread and now I've got to lie in it. and it's still a totally cushy job compared to most others.

anyways, a new guy started a few days ago and sits opposite me. the desks are pretty deep and there's a pair of monitors on each desk, so not exactly conducive for convo (result!), and it means I can only see his head from the top of his glasses upwards.

why am I tell you this? well guess what? - the bit of his head that I can see looks exactly like the corresponding head-part of my last boss. grrr

boring as fuck... torchy!

[>_<]

Aw, thats a shame Torchy...when you find your next job, maybe you will need to assess everything in making each day you are there as pleasurable as it can be

Boring job?

Get a life Torchy!

And a non-boring job.

Life is too short for boring jobs.

(btw we'll be your mates)

"...buttered my bread and now I've got to lie in it."

That has to be the strangest mixed metaphor I've heard in ages. Interesting visual, though...

Oh dear, I feel for you, boring - yet well paid day time job in the city that hardly ever sleeps! Gosh, tis soo hard this thing called life.

But hey all good things, you could make a little peashooter and shoot little pellets off his head if you get really really bored. Juvenile, but hey wtf!

Ever watch the show The Office?

I think you should come up with little games that you play with yourself to keep you occupied.

.... which should not include playing with yourself. Unless it is your lunch time, then feel free to do as you please.

I find it fascinating how I sometimes connect with colleagues and sometimes do not. I don't share an office (and haven't since 1998), so I have to seek out people in their offices, in the hallways, or by chance elsewhere.

Yesterday I had a conversation with somebody--first time we've ever talked--and I feel like I should invite him and his husband over for dinner.

Other people I've worked with a dozen times and I just have no interest in talking to them outside of the office.

Where is your initiative Torchy?!!

Either get this guy to change his hair (and maybe glasses and also use some defoliating skin cream (only needed from eye level up) to change his complexion) or just get a pot plant or some weird cuddly toys or something to place on top of the monitor so you can't see him.

Simples! Why do you make life's problems seem so intractable? ;-)

It's almost time for the next "5 on the fifth". As usual, everyone is welcome to take part. You can either take 5 random pictures of something that happens to you on the 5th of February (or the days leading up to it) or perhaps go for my suggested theme. This month, the theme is Reflections.

I hope that you will be inspired take part - please tell your friends too! Don't forget to add a comment on my blog on the 5th with your name, location and link where the pictures can be found. Remember to mention my blog on your own blog so that your visitors get to see the other contributions.
